I have decided that this will be my last post. I have really enjoyed blogging over the past year but I can't give the blog all of the time that I would like, so it's time to give it up. Thanks for checking in for good deals and local updates. I will still be teaching Grocery Tutor classes, but can't commit the time to blog. Have a great summer. This week Rainbow Foods has their Nature's Bounty Your Life Multi Vitamins on sale BOGO. This is a new women's vitamin. Price is $10.79. Use (2) $3/1 coupons from SS 6/6 or (2) $2/1 from Grocery Game 1 Get these for as little as $2.40/each. Most of the Nature's Bounty supplements are BOGO this week as well.
This week Rainbow Foods also has Sundown Naturals Children's Vitamins BOGO. This is for the Marvel Hero's Gummy vitamins. Use (2) $1/1 coupons from Grocery Game 1 to get these for as little as $1.85/each. This is assuming that you are shopping on Sat. and doubling your coupons.

Rainbow Foods Catalina Coupons

I noticed a change in the way Rainbow prints some of its catalina coupons this week. The current Kellogg's cereal promotion includes an instant $10 off and a coupon for a gallon of FREE milk up to $3.00. Typically this milk coupon would print out of the catalina machine upon the completion of your checkout. This week it printed out in the form of a coupon at the bottom of the receipt similar to the CVS ExtraCareBucks. It doesn't look like a coupon so you have to look carefully. This would be easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. I'll keep my eyes open to see if this continues to be the way this type of coupon is presented. Don't let any of these end up in the trash!

Why does Cub Foods accept expired coupons?

I had the chance to visit with a woman who has worked closely with Cub Foods in the past. She shared with me that the reason Cub can accept expired coupons is because they own their own coupon clearinghouse which allows them to reimburse themselves for coupons. This answers the question as to whether Cub gets reimbursed for the expired coupons or not. This also explains why the cashiers at Cub never check the expiration date to see if it's within the 5 mo. period or not. One more piece of local shopping information to tuck away!

Rainbow Foods Update

The word is that Rainbow Foods will be having Double Double Daze on Wed. June 9th. That means that you can double 10 coupons with a $25 order. This is awesome!

Remember that the FuelPerks Program with BP is scheduled to change in July. It's not too soon to begin watching the Sunday ad carefully for details about this. You'd be amazed by the information you can find in the ad if you look through it very carefully.

The Double Coupon Saturdays are also scheduled to end in July. This was extended from the April deadline if you recall. Not a bad idea to begin watching the ad and instore flyers for informaiton about this as well. Wouldn't it be great if this continued? If find it really convenient to stop in early on Sat. for a few items if some of what I need is out on Wed.

I first tried this new product last summer when I was camping with the Girl Scouts. Either the mosquitoes weren't very bad, or this worked really well! I have also used this clipped to my camping chair on the soccer field. There were so many great coupons out that you could really try it for free, which is the best way to try new products!

CVS has the personal clip-on device on sale this week for $7.99. The refill packs are on sale for $.2.99. On the CVS website there is a $3 coupon for the purchase of one clip on mosquito repellent product at CVS. You can print 2 of these coupons.

Here are your choices:

Purchase 2 of the clip-on devices using 2 of the $3 coupons. OOP $10+tax

Now. . . I went to the CVS in Eden Prairie today. They had the Off display in 3 different places. The first place I looked was next to the sunscreen. The refills that I wanted were out. I found a second display on the endcap. It was nicely stocked. A third location was a few aisles back where these items seemed to be displayed with other miscellaneous items. So. . . the moral of the story is that if you don't find these items in the first location you look, keep looking!

Register Rewards Now Accepted at Rainbow and Cub

Here's some interesting news! Walgreens Register Rewards are now being accepted at Rainbow Foods and Cub Foods. Remember that these are Manufacturer's Coupons and need to be used as such. That means that they must match up with an item being purchased. One Manufacturer's Coupon per item is the universal policy. Remember also that these do have expiration dates. Rainbow Foods will not accept expired ones but Cub Foods will! Cub Foods in Eden Prairie will accept these expired for up to 5 months as they do with all other coupons. This is a new policy at Cub Foods, so if the cashier isn't aware of it, be sure to have the store manager fill them in. One more thing to factor in while planning your weekly savings strategy!

Minnesota Coupon Adventure and PocketYourDollars put together weekly lists also. They do a great job of linking items up with internet generated coupons. What you won'd find here is the information about where items are in the sales cycle and the ability to personalize and print your list.

The Grocery Game list and the blog lists are both useful resources when searching for the best deals at the store. I find myself always using The Grocery Game and then adding regional sale items from a blogger list to round out my shopping list.

FREE 2 liter of Mountain Dew when you purchase 1 Doritos (11.05oz-12oz) and a Tombstone Pizza. This tearpad was found in the frozen food section alongside the Tombstone pizzas. Expires 7/25/10
Save $1 on bottled water (6 pack or larger, excludes flavored waters) when you purchase Two packages of these featured Keebler and/or Sunshine snack crackers: Cheez-It, Club, Toasteds, Town House, Wheatables and FlipSides. This tearpad was found near the crackers. Expires 8/15/10

Kingsford Charcoal coupons. A coupon booklet peelie can be found on the charcoal display in the meat department. Both expire 7/31/10.
$5 off a 2 lb. bag of Arctic Shrimp 26-30 count. Click HERE to print this coupon. I was able to use the Arctic Shore $5 shrimp coupon today at the Cub Foods in EP. There isn't a 2lb package with 26-30 pieces in it, but there is a 1 lb package priced at $6.99. The manager was a little suspect about the coupon because there are no numbers under the barcode, but she keyed it in and accepted it. 2 1lb bags of shrimp for $1.99/ea is not bad! She said that someone else had recently been in and used the same coupon. No guarantees on how this one will be accepted, but it is from Cub corporate as the email clearly shows. Also, this coupon can be printed multiple times. It is not regulated like most other coupons are.

Of course I get these coupons at Cub Foods but I redeem almost all of them at Rainbow Foods on a Wednesday or Saturday. You can always get a better deal overall at Rainbow because of the double coupon opportunity.

Rainbow Foods Update

Here are a few things to note about Rainbow Foods:

Rainbow Foods Double Coupon Saturdays has been extended until July 30, 2010. That means you can double 5 coupons with a face value of up to $1 with a $25 order on Saturdays as well as on Wednesdays. This really gives options for our weekly shopping. I find that if I am working on Wed., then early Sat. morning is a great option. The Rainbow Foods in Eden Prairie is open from 6am-11pm, so I try to get there by 6:30am on Saturdays so I can shop in peace and hopefully still find some of the good deals!
Rainbow Foods has extended their FuelPerkps program with BP through July 10th, 2010. At that time there will be changes to the program, but at the store level they don't know what those changes will be yet. If you have a choice of where to shop, Rainbow Foods is the best choice when you consider that not only do they double coupons but they also subsidize your gas purchases!
The Rainbow Foods in Eden Prairie no longer accepts internet generated BOGO coupons. Because of coupon fraud they will deny these coupons at the register. They will accept the BOGO coupons from the inserts or magazines.

Where Have I Been?

I know, I haven't posted anything for almost a month now. We had an unexpected family situation come up which forced me to slow down and reconsider things. I really do enjoy blogging. I have missed it and thought about it many days during the past couple of weeks. The downside of blogging is that it is time-consuming. What I have decided to do is resume the blogging but commit to updating only a couple of times a week or when there is an opportunity to save on an item that would only take minutes to post. Great News! The FuelPerks promotion between Roundy's and BP is going to continue through July! I told you several weeks ago that I had noticed the verbage changing in the weekly Rainbow Foods ad. It no longer mentioned the promotion ending, but it didn't mention that it was continuing either. Well. . . in this past Sunday's paper Roundy's did announce that the promotion will continue through July 2010. No mention of the program changing at all. It's not too late for you to get in on this deal! With gas prices inching towards $3/gallon, who wouldn't want to save a bit at the pump? This promotion doesn't cost you a thing but it does enhance your savings at Rainbow/Copps/Pick 'N Save. Here's how to get started:

Go to Customer Service at Rainbow Foods and request a FuelPerks card.
They will ask for your driver's license and phone number
You will receive a FuelPerks card that looks like a credit card. You can also request a smaller keychain tag. **You can request 2 cards that combine your credits so that you and your spouse can work together towards your earnings**
Each time you check out at Rainbow give the card to the cashier. They will swipe the card which will allow it to accrue credits toward gas.
If you are at the checkout and you have forgotten your FuelPerks card, you can link your credits to your card by giving the cashier your phone number!
Check the bottom of your receipt for your credit balance
Purchase your gas at a local BP.
Follow the prompts on the digital display at the pump and reap your instant rewards.

Rainbow Foods Match-ups 4/4-4/10

Here are Karen's match-ups for Rainbow Foods for this week. Last week I did have an instance where a cashier would not double my coupons that said "Do Not Double." Normally they don't look that closely. The cashier told me that the manufacturer will not reimburse them the doubled amount so she adjusted the coupons so that they doubled up to their face-value. Bummer!

Rainbow Foods, Pick N Save, Copps doubles every Wed and Rainbow doubles on Saturday.
They will double five (5) $1 (value can be less) coupons once you spend $25.
There may be some coupons that state DND on them when you print them out.
If the coupon code starts with a 5, it is up to the cashier to not double it as the register will double it.

Eden Prairie Target Update

You may have noticed the continious renovation going on at the EP Target in recent months. The entire store has undergone a facelift. In addition, the grocery area has been enlarged to accomodate fresh meat and product. The Grand Re-Opening is scheduled for April 18th. This date does fluctuate a bit so I will keep my eyes on it and let you know if this changes. We should see some good deals to pull shoppers in to the grocery area to see what's new. You may remember a few months back when I posted that the Roundy's gas promotion with BP was going to end in April. It was advertised in their weekly ad that it would be ending in mid-April. Well. . . I have been watching the ad for the past several weeks and noticed that the wording about the promotion ending had been eliminated. I asked an employee at Rainbow Foods about it today and he said that the promotion would not be ending, but that it would be changing a little bit. He didn't have any of the details. Watch your weekly ad to see how the "revised" promotion is rolled out. This is honestly the best gas promotion I have ever seen. It's a no brainer to get cheaper gas! I am always amazed when I am behind people in the check-out line who don't participate. Nothing like saving at the grocery store AND the gas pump!

Coupon Policy at Rainbow Foods

I think it's interesting to hear about other people's experiences in shopping at Rainbow Foods. Each store seems to have it's own personality and policies. What goes at one store doesn't often work down the street. Here is a post about Rainbow Foods from PocketYourDollars that I thought was informative. Remember that your experience might be a bit different than what you read here.

Coupon Policy for Roundy’s Stores: Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick n Save

I am a firm believer in using coupons appropriately and in line with the manufacturer’s and retailer’s rules. Because I post shopping lists that match Rainbow’s sale prices with coupons, I thought it would be helpful to share their coupon policies as I understand them. These policies apply to all Roundy’s stores including Copps, Pick ‘N Save and Rainbow Foods.

General Policies
Roundy’s general coupon policies are as follows:

Internet printed coupons
Coupons printed from the internet must be legitimate, printed in color or black and white and have the following:
§ “Manufacturer coupon” printed on coupon
§ Bar-scan code
§ Current expiration date
§ Website where printed from must be on coupon

Manufacturer’s coupons for purchased products only.
Manufacturer’s coupons will only be accepted for purchased products. Items received for free through store promotions (“meal deal” or “buy one, get one free”) are not considered purchased products; therefore, manufacturer’s coupons can not be used for these products.

Maximum value of coupons.
Coupons are accepted only for products of equal or greater value; they do not give cash back on coupons. Sales tax is paid by the customer at full retail.

Free product coupons.
Free or “buy one, get one free” product coupons printed from the internet will not be accepted at Roundy’s stores; free or “buy one, get one free” product coupons from the newspaper will be accepted.

Maximum value of internet printed coupons.
There is no limit on the value of an internet printed coupon.

Right of refusal. The store has the right to refuse any coupon printed from the internet at any time.

Stacking store coupons with manufacturer-issued coupons.
A store coupon can be redeemed with a manufacturer’s coupon for the same item.

Doubled Coupon Policies
Roundy’s stores doubles coupons (a “doubled coupon” means that a $1 off coupon is equal to $2 off):Weekly.
Every Wednesday – even when it is not explicitly advertised in the paper. Right now, through April 10, 2010, Rainbow Foods stores are also doubling coupons on Saturdays.

$25 threshold.
Roundy’s formal corporate policy is that the sale price value of the groceries in your transaction must be at least $25 for your coupons to be eligible for doubling. However, the registers are currently programmed (as of March 18, 2010) to double coupons when the shelf price (the highest price listed on the shelf tag, which is usually the full, pre-sale price) before coupons is $25. If you plan your transactions using the shelf price versus the sale price, you do so at your own risk that the registers have been modified to align with their formal corporate policy.

Only five.
Up to 5 manufacturer’s coupons can be doubled per transaction.
It’s automatic. The registers automatically double the face value of the first five eligible coupons scanned if your groceries meet the $25 threshold. All that to say, the cashier does not push a button or manually “approve” you to have doubled coupons. The register just does it.

The first five.
The first 5 eligible coupons scanned will double – that means you should hand the clerk your 5 highest value coupons first.

Up to $1.
Only coupons valued at less or equal to $1 off will be doubled.

Exceptions. “Buy one, get one free” and “try me free” coupons are not eligible for doubling.

Coupons that say “Do Not Double.”
Some manufacturer-issued coupons say “do not double” on them. Roundy’s formal policy is that they will not double these. Before I realized this was part of their formal policy I asked specifically about these coupons at my local Rainbow Foods. I was told that the store where I shop will allow these coupons to double if they double automatically when scanned. Note: I cannot tell which coupons have the “do not double” wording on them when I put together the weekly shopping list, so you will need to check them yourself.

Transactions.
Roundy’s official policy is that customers are encouraged to make one transaction to double their coupons, but again, this will vary from store to store. Most shoppers at Roundy’s stores will find that they are allowed to make more than one transaction.

Rainbow Foods Matchups 3/7-3/13

Rainbow Foods doubles every Wed and Saturday and they will double five (5) $1 (value can be less) coupons once you spend $25. There may be some coupons that state DND on them when you print them out. Yipee! This is the second month in a row that Rainbow has offered a new twist to the double coupon Wed. at the end of the month (well. . . this is technically the beginning of a new month!). On Wed. 3/3 you can double 10 coupons with a $25 order instead of the usual 5! I was told by one of the Rainbow employees that this might become a pattern at the end of the month. Remember that your $1 coupons are your best friend on Wednesdays! You can only double coupons with a face-value of up to $1. Rainbow does not accept expired coupons.
